This summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Phase 1 trainee in the Technical Operations team in Salo, and I will remember summer 2024 as an educational and rewarding period in my life.
In the fall, I will start my third year of mechanical engineering studies at the University of Turku. It has been nice to see how the skills and knowledge I have learned in school have become more concrete in practical work. During my studies, I have learned many basics, such as project management, teamwork, and technical skills, but it is only now at work that I have been able to apply these skills in practice.
One of the clearest examples of this has been 3D modeling. At school, I received basic knowledge of modeling, but only now have I been able to use and develop this skill with real projects.
During this summer, I have been involved in projects where I have had the chance to try different roles and take on responsibility in a completely new way. I have been able to participate in decision-making and have noticed that my opinions and views are valued. This has boosted my confidence and strengthened my belief in my own abilities.
Getting to know new people has been as important as developing technical skills. It has been great to work with motivated and supportive individuals. In addition to my own team, I have had the chance to get to know other summer employees. Various events have been organized for us, where we have been able to get to know each other in a relaxed setting and receive mentoring from more experienced Orion employees.
The experiences I have gained over the summer have strengthened my interest in the pharmaceutical industry, and I am confident that these skills and networks will be beneficial in the future as well. It has been rewarding to work in a team where each member is a top expert in their field – with their help, my personal development has been tremendous. This summer has given me valuable lessons, new friends, and a deeper understanding of what working life can be at its best.
